I noticed the forest service was re-doing the road plan in the Becker / Edna Creek area near Idaho City. I don’t know that any are necessarily that important of trails, but they are closing some 50 miles of roads to full size vehicle access.
Public comment period is 6PM tonight at the best western plus on Vista.
Thanks. I am somewhat familiar with the area. It all seems reasonable. Hikers, equestrians, and 50″ razors, and wood cutters take a small hit. The area has no intrinsic Jeeping value.
It looks like the Feds are going to keep the gates closed all year long for the roads off route 21 that are part of the x-country ski trails and that access the yurts. The Feds have opened them during the summer months.
One full access road is being rerouted up away from a creek. Probably 1 gate closes and another opens.
A big area north of the Crooked River Hiking Trail has some full access roads changed to <50" wide ATV and some "new" ATV trails. I expect the "new" trails are already there and just being formally recognized.
I was just down in Moab and heard on the radio that the Feds are working to accommodate the razors and shift trails away from the ATV only designation. Seems like the Feds are behind the times in Idaho.
