This winch was given to me when I bought my trailer. He works in a salvage yard and took it off a jeep and intended on using it on the trailer but never did. He didnt have the remote. Short of buying a universal 3 prong remote that looks like it would fit to see if it would work, I was wondering if anybody had any advise on how I should go about it. I figure the red goes to the positive and black to the negative of the battery but the little black wire seen in pic coming off the round solenoid looking thing. Is that just another ground wire>?? I tried finding out anything I could on the winch with the part number to no avail, it must be old. If I can get it to work, I have not decided on truck or trailer use. Any help would be much appreciated.

The little black wire is just another ground wire.
If you’ve got some electrical skills, you’ll be able to use a jumper to test that winch. If it works, head to the Chinese toy store and get this item http://www.harborfreight.com/wireless-winch-remote-control-69229.html

Brown to Red should go one way.
Brown to Yellow should go the other way.

I’d vote for red-brown and red-yellow since the red wire is tied to the bus connected to battery positive

The solinoids pack looks the same as on my CSI brute. Maybe their wireless controler would work if it is established that the winch works.
