3 Trails for 3 Clubs -A spotter’s tale – MAR 2019
Due to temporal limitations, I was only able to spot for Hooker Canyon.
Sot the title is a complete lie. –but keep reading anyway and I’ll make it true in the end.
The annual Three Club run is target rich environment for wheelin’ fun. “Something-for-everyone” would be an all too obvious name for it. We even improvised a fourth scenic run out of a planned three because we had the numbers. –because YOU came out for the fun. I hope none of you left empty handed. –I know none of you left hungry.
12 vehicles took the scenic route for a great vantage point to observe Gauntlet & Diff-Hanger.
Gauntlet’s challenge was met by ten rock crawlin’ beasts.
Diff-Hanger was the choice for 18 rigs. Yeah, 18 vehicles on Diff-Hanger. For some, it felt like 5Pm on the Curtis Connector. A long day but for 18 out and 18 back. Not a bad day.
Hooker Canyon is where 31 chose to spend the day wheelin’.
That wasn’t a typo. 30 Rigs opted for Hooker Canyon. That’s when I chose to be a photo-spotter and make the run on foot.
Hooker Canyon is where I learned just how capable a bone-stock Jeep JKU-R could be. I’d have never taken my rig down on my own. Not for a million bucks. And I certainly would have never gotten it back up and out. –but for one thing: Spotters. A good spotter watches out for your rig like it was their own. They do their damnedest to avoid damage, to give you confidence.
I got the chance to spot for some on the Hooker run and the look on your faces as you got through challenges is quite rewarding.
Yeah, you DID just do that. You’re a 4×4 beast and you’re out here wheelin’ over waterfalls and back. Great goin’ YOU!
Man! what a great bit of wheelin’ fun that day.
We thirty-one thought for sure we’d be last back for lunch. When the Hooker Canyon group arrived at base, we were within 10-15min of the other group’s return. We could not have planned that better if we tried.
IOR put up Burgers, Dogs & Buns for the meal. and OMG! was it awesome. Great organization, food & treats. An amazing time w/ amazing friends and clubs.
