IDAHO4x4.com v2.0
WHAT’s NEW – For Leaders & Council members
Hey All,
I wanted to capture, here, the change points between the Original.Idaho4x4.com(I’m gona call it the OG) and this new version.
What Have I done… .. . I started over from scratch. This is a new implementation of the same framework used for the OG site. It’s called WordPress. WordPress is a basic framework for creating websites. Cool features and abilities come from Plugins. I’ve switched some plugins, added some and chosen not to use others.
Also, I’ve re-written and re-organized and added new content. This meant making some changes to how content appears in the menus.
Philosophically, I’ve shifted the focus of idaho4x4.com to member preferred services and content. Nathan, Dan, Christian, and many others put out really good information during our club meetings. That content deserves a home where it can be reviewed, updated, and discussed later. Idaho4x4.com can do that. Events can be better tracked and more functional out of idaho4x4.com.
–In short, Idaho4x4.com will be more useful and more meaningful to IOR Club Members. –that’s my goal.
PICTURES – I’ve made a 1:1 copy of our existing ‘gallery’ of images. We’ll continue to use and hopefully expand our usage of pictures on the website.
FORUMS – I’ve discontinued forums as they existed in OG. The functionality most used in the forums have been replaced by Categories(Club Minutes, Education & Info, Run & Event Reviews/ReCap, Member Rigs, RocketRun). Each category will have its own page and access controls.
But Micke! what about…?
Q: What stays, what goes, what’s this mean to the users?
A: User accounts stay. Picture-Gallery stays, Forum goes, Event Calendar improves/evolves(stays & gets better), Ability for users/members to interact improves. Users will experience a snappier response time for content with more features.
Q: We loved the forums! it was our favorite. what will I do now?
A: Most of the day to day chatter and activity happens on facebook(public). This will continue to be the ideal location for this type of content.
Q: No, seriously, the forums have some information that I still find useful.
A: Yep, I can understand that. So I’ve created a 1:1 copy of the OG site at [original.idaho4x4.com]
Q: Fine, where then, can I discuss offroading in a forum-like setting?
A: You can initiate discussions on Facebook, or Reddit, and IOR_Members can reply to most of the categories
Q: DEWD! there are still so many things not available or not working on this v2.0 of yours. Why are you jumping so soon?
A: Because the content and functionality we have now is of greater value than the things that aren’t working so well on OG.
..and I would -seriously- love to receive any input/feedback and comments on what needs to be focused next.
Q: Who can create what content?
A: Review “Group Names / Definitions & Rights/Abilities” below for a primer on who can create/do what.
