Land Use & State Association – Patti Evans

Land Use

Sandra Mitchell of IRC met with Undersecretary of Agriculture over Natural Resources, Dr. Homer Wilkes.

A number of issues were discussed at that meeting. In Summary he is very supportive of Motorized Recreation.  Sandra has extended an invitation to Dr. Wilkes to come to Idaho to see first-hand the issues we face in a state that is 61.65% public lands.  Included in that invitation is an outing on the trails with IOR4x4 to experience how we use the trails responsibly.

Another strong point was that the Forest Service has been decommissioning roads and that in many cases those roads are destroyed creating more damage than leaving the road as it exists.  This decreases the accessibility of two track access roads.  Dr. Homer was not aware of this process and will be looking into it.

Sandra also met with House Rep Ken Buck, Senator Mike Crapo, Senate Natural Resources Jim Rish, Congressman Mike Simpson, and Representative Russ Fulcher.

Idaho State 4×4 Association
