Questions have recently come up to council: “IOR is sitting on an awful lot of money in their bank account. What are your plans for use of it?” Christian explained tonight to the Club, that we are saving to help possibly restore/maintenance of our Club adopted Trails or use for possible future land battles in court. Both options are very possible. A large portion of our monies go towards donations yearly to Blue Ribbon Coalition and IRC for your lands, these two are our major fight against land closures to our recreating areas.

VII. Education : Rory Olsen & Daniel Roberts came to speak to our Club on behalf of Search and Rescue. Search & Rescue current have 125 members, that answer calls in WA, OR, ID, UT, MT, &WY. They are called in by Sherriff’s Dept for each call. 3 times a year they have Orientation Sessions for new Volunteers. To begin training there are 3 evenings (Search & Rescue Academy) of classes before a volunteer is asked out on calls. You have to work your way up from field calls to specialty groups. They can even place a volunteer into maintenance dept to care for their equipment and machinery. They touched on things to remember to take with you before to venture out on trips: tell someone responsible where your going and when to expect you back. If something should go wrong stay put or leave a note where you said you’d be to tell searchers what direction you headed. Take synthetic clothing, fire supplies, extra water and food. A sleeping bag if your headed a great distance, shell jacket, long sleeved clothing (good for sun protection), Compass, HAM radio, SPOT or IN REACH satellite locator beacons. If you’d like to contact Rory Olsen (Volunteer Coordinator/Public Relations) his email is: olseror@yahoo.com
